How to Teach About Climate Change? – Ostrowiec Climate Academy

The fourth lecture of the Ostrowiec Climate Academy took place on 13 April 2026 at the Etiuda Hall of the Ostrowiecki Browar Kultury and focused on climate education and how to talk about climate change. The lecture was delivered by Dr Michał Pałasz, a representative of the Climate Council of Jagiellonian University, who emphasised the importance of combining reliable knowledge with a sense of agency. Participants discussed how to communicate the scale of the climate and ecological crisis without increasing feelings of helplessness, highlighting the importance of hope, responsible language and presenting concrete opportunities for action. The lecture showed that climate education also involves developing systems thinking, critical approaches to information and resilience to misinformation. Examples of practical initiatives included creating green teams, developing climate and ecological strategies, expanding green and blue infrastructure, promoting sustainable mobility and reducing waste. The meeting highlighted that combining knowledge, engagement and a sense of agency can help schools, institutions and local communities build a responsible response to climate challenges.
