Investments related to accessibility for people with disabilities
A press conference with the participation of the Vice-Mayor of the City of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Artur Łakomiec, focused on the implementation of investment projects related to accessibility of buildings, public places and playgrounds for people with disabilities, which bring numerous social, economic and cultural benefits. The conference was also attended by employees of the Investment Department, who were responsible for the implementation of the project Deputy Head of the Investment Department Artur Majcher, Construction Department employee Marta Adamczyk and Julita Perlik, and Krzysztof Karkut employee of the Road Investment Projects Department of Ostrowiec Magistrate.
“Some of the investments have already been completed, and some are underway. We strive to make Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski a city that is friendly to everyone, and we do not forget about people with disabilities. The investments being made in our city will certainly make life easier for people with mobility impairments, as well as contribute to the integration of the Ostrowiec community.” — stated the Vice-Mayor during the conference.
The Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski Commune is carrying out three major tasks related to improving the situation of public place accessibility for people with disabilities.
1. Adapting sidewalks and pedestrian crossings to meet the needs of people with disabilities and making these places safer.
The scope of the investment project covers:
- construction of 2 parking spaces at ul. Karola Szymanowskiego for people with special needs
with concrete pavers, along with the modification of existing sidewalks and pedestrian accesses, lowering the curb, providing lighting for pedestrian crossings, and vertical and horizontal signage,
- designation of 2 parking spaces at ul. Armii Krajowej for people with special needs
on the existing parking bay at residential block no. 13, designation of on parking space for persons with special needs located on the existing parking bay with an asphalt-concrete surface at residential block no. 31, construction of vertical and horizontal signage, construction of a new pedestrian crossing at residential block no. 37, along with lowering the curb, modification of existing sidewalks and pedestrian accesses, as well as construction of vertical and horizontal signage and providing lighting for the pedestrian crossing.
- modification of existing pedestrian crossings, along with modification of existing sidewalks and pedestrian accesses at ul. Marii Dąbrowskiej.
- modification of existing pedestrian crossings, along with modification of existing sidewalks and pedestrian accesses, construction of vertical and horizontal sinage and providing additional lighting for pedestrian crossings at ul. Marii Dąbrowskiej — intersection with ul. Marii Konopnickiej.
- modification of existing pedestrian crossings along with modification of existing sidewalks and pedestrian accesses, construction of vertical and horizontal signage and providing lighting of pedestrian crossings at ul. Wspólna — intersection with ul. Mikołaja Kopernika.
In addition, tactile pavers will be laid at pedestrian crossings for the
visually impaired, and pedestrian crossings will be illuminated with neutral color LED street lamps dedicated to this purpose.
2. Adaptation of playgrounds to the needs of people with disabilities.
The youngest residents of our city, will be able to use the retrofitted playgrounds in the following locations:
1) Gutwin Recreation Center — one device (inclusive carousel);
2) Market Square in Denkowo — two devices (inclusive set, arch swing) + waste segregation bin;
3) ul. F. Chopina — one device (inclusive swing) + waste segregation bin;
4) Fabryczny Park — four devices (inclusive set, carousel, arch swing, inclusive swing) + waste segregation bin and educational picnic table;
5) Marshal Józef Piłsudski City Park — seven devices (inclusive set, carousel, two arch swings, integration swing, exercise bicycle (fitness equipment), cable machine (fitness equipment) + waste segregation bin and educational picnic table;
6) Ogrody estate at ul. E. Dziewulskiego — five devices (inclusive set, carousel, arch swing, inclusive swing, cable machine (fitness equipment) + waste segregation bin and educational picnic table;
7) ul. S. Wyspiańskiego — three devices (inclusive set, carousel, inclusive swing) + waste segregation bin and educational picnic table.
The above locations were selected through consultations with the housing estate councils — the consultations were carried out by the Head of the Planning and Development Department Dominik Smoliński and his deputy Tomasz Gębka, as well as Vice Chairwoman of the City Council Joanna Pikus.
3. Increasing accessibility for people with special needs in public buildings belonging to the Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski Commune.
As part of the aforementioned investment project, civil works and the purchase of equipment to improve access to public buildings belonging to the Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski Commune were commissioned.
The task includes four buildings: Public Kindergarten No. 11 — ul. Wspólna 20, Public Kindergarten No. 12 — Słoneczne estate 5, Public Kindergarten No. 19 — Ogrody estate 20, and the building that houses the headquarters of the Municipal Social Welfare Center at ul. Świętokrzyska 22.
Scope of the order:
1) Public Kindergarten No. 11
- modification of exterior stairs and ramp for the disabled at the main entrance to the building,
- exterior door replacement,
- installation of an air curtain,
2) Public Kindergarten No. 12
- modification of exterior stairs and ramp for the disabled at the main entrance,
- modification of the bathroom for the disabled,
- construction of guiding paths with a typhlographic board,
- replacement of fire doors in the stairwell,
- supply and installation of an induction loop,
3) Public Kindergarten No. 19
- upgrading the exterior stairs at the main entrance,
- modification of the sidewalk,
- installation of an exterior lift for the disabled,
4) the Municipal Social Welfare Center building
- renovation of the exterior stairs at the main entrance,
- upgrading the bathroom for the disabled located on the first floor of the building,
- guiding paths with a typhlographic board on the first floor of the building,
- supply and installation of an induction loop.
In the Public Kindergarten No. 11 building, the works have been completed. Site cleanup and completion of as-built documentation is underway. A lift for the disabled will be installed at Public Kindergarten No. 19. Work will also soon begin at Public Kindergarten No. 12 and the Municipal Social Welfare Center building.
